The summer holidays are upon us and it’s time to get thinking caps on to find ways to keep the children entertained during the long break. Fortunately, if you’re in Somerset, or might be paying the county a visit, I have three brilliant family days out for you to consider!
Fun Family Days Out in Somerset
Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm
Somerset is well-known for its extensive green land and its areas of outstanding natural beauty, including the grounds in which Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is set.
At the Zoo Farm you can see over 100 different species of animals, including Meerkats, Gibbons, Giant Tortoises, Spectacled Bears, Lemurs, Lions and Giraffes! There are also plenty of more familiar farm animals and the Zoo offers a range of animal experiences where you can get up close and personal! There are lots of indoor and outdoor play areas to discover (including Europe’s longest hedge maze!), and make sure you visit the Noah’s Ark exhibition!
The SS Great Britain, and Being Brunel, Bristol
We had a brilliant day out at the Being Brunel museum – watch the video here!
Dunster Castle Grounds (National Trust)
Dunster Castle is a Norman castle in the parish of Dunster owned and run by the National Trust in West Somerset. The castle is in an elevated position bringing about breathtaking views across to the Bristol Channel, Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills which is an area of outstanding beauty in Somerset.
We went as a family to Dunster Castle and found it to be packed with history, with plenty of outside free-range space for the children and views to delight and enthrall children and adults alike. We loved the palm trees and sub-tropical feel to the gardens.
The outside space is sizeable and on different levels, with each level offering something different to see and far-reaching views to the sea. The levelled lawns are a fantastic place to set up, play games, run about and have a picnic. It makes for a lovely family day out, especially on a sunny day.
This is just a tiny selection of the wonderful family days out in Somerset that you can try out to keep your family busy this summer.
