Recently I was invited to spend a gorgeous day experiencing a relaxing Caudalie spa treatment and eight course tasting menu at Aztec Hotel & Spa Bristol.
I met with other local bloggers for a whole day blogger event to demonstrate what a normal day would look like for a hotel guest staying at Aztec Hotel & Spa on the outskirts of the city of Bristol.
Firstly, all of the elements of this day were gifted in exchange for a review, and all words and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make this blog possible!
Getting to Aztec Hotel & Spa by car
Aztec Hotel & Spa has easy road links straight off Junction 16 / M5, round the roundabout and you’re there! Making this hotel perfectly situated for exploring Bristol, conferences, business trips and a comfortable stay around the Bristol/Filton area.
On arrival I was pleasantly surprised to find the car park is on site and free from charges, immediately making me feel relaxed and at ease. First impressions of the hotel entrance are a homely, warm and welcoming feel. With warm tones to the fabrics and artwork with local scenes in a modern setting.
Every House of Daniel Thwaites hotel has a similar feel in the decoration and fittings, always something to nod to the local area too. I noted hot air balloons and huge pictures of Clifton Suspension Bridge which tied in the local area of Bristol perfectly! The zoned areas were a perfect mix of traditional and modern. Open and cosy.
Meeting the bloggers & Aztec team
I love meeting the other bloggers at events like this. Even if we haven’t met in real life before, the blog community in the UK is quite tight-knit. And so it’s possible to talk to other bloggers via DM or on social media without having met in real life before. It’s always a joy to put face to blog and I loved meeting them all.
After a welcome talk from Andrea of Aztec Hotel & Spa, a surprise breakfast was hand delivered by Head Chef Marc Payne, kicking off our blogger day superbly. I wish I hadn’t eaten breakfast before I left home!
Marc served up scrambled egg and fillet steak in a brioche bun with chives and black truffle grated on the top. Marc talked about serving authentic food they would normally on the brunch menu; showcasing what is on offer at the hotel all year round. You can’t have a more elegant breakfast than that can you?
My personal favourite was a gorgeous fruit bircher with tropical fruits; mango, pineapple, plums, fig, greek yoghurt and freeze dried raspberry on top. YUM! Definitely my kind of food as I love clean and healthy food. There’s a special on the breakfast menu every day running alongside the normal breakfast menu.
Caudalie Spa Treatment at Aztec Hotel & Spa
After our superb start, we were guided to the Spa and Treatment facility which is decorated in a clean and serene teal, green and white palette which personally I loved! I’m considering teal subway tiles in my kitchen as I loved them so much.
After some time in the swimming pool area which has a sizeable and clean pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi it was time for my treatment.
I recommend requesting Katherine for your treatment, she took the time to ask what pressure I’d like and being totally candid I told her I’m abit of a wimp when it comes to pressure, so asked for soft to medium pressure for my Caudalie The Des Vignes back massage.
Hands down BEST back massage I’ve ever had for pressure and gentleness. And the Caudalie oil is so soft and unassuming, honest, authentic and smells gorgeous. The Caudalie candle added gorgeous glow in the super neat and tranquil treatment space. A real treat. I truly felt relaxed and rejuvenated afterwards.
Considering I’d not heard of the brand before, I’m a total Caudalie convert…After Andrea explained how the brand came about I was already sold before even using it! Aztec Spa has recently started offering these unique antioxidant products. And with the similarities between the two brands (The House of Daniel Thwaites and Caudalie are both family established businesses with a similar ethos) and the fascinating story behind Caudalie you can see why it’s a match made in heaven.
A unique story of love, nature, passion, chance encounters and a sense of adventure!
I’m a sucker for a great story behind how a business uses ingenuity to get started. Hence why I started my SELECTED series!
Time for a foodie masterclass and lunch by Aztec Hotel & Spa Head Chef Marc Payne and his team, all eight courses of it!
The day progressed with a gorgeous room set up for a food tasting and a master class. I’ve never had 4 sets of cutlery before, I was excited to say the least about the foodie experience before us.
Marc started by showcasing the produce grown by the hotel, including edible flowers, leaves, and in this case beetroot! All the colours and all the ways you can have beetroot, including shocking pink beetroot powder!
Marc also presented a beef dish, with deep exotic spices, black garlic which I love.
We were then treated to eight courses to showcase the high quality and flavours usual to The Curious Kitchen, Aztec’s in house restaurant.
The menus are changed up quarterly using seasonal produce, and are locally sourced and grown. Marc and his team are so knowledgeable about the food they source, prepare and cook, that they know all the allergens off by heart. No need a check a packet here, everything is fresh! As a family with some food allergies, this gives me great confidence I can take my family to The Curious Kitchen without worrying about mis-information. I know Marc and his team, including the waiting staff are fully knowledgeable and tested regularly on the food on offer.
I was thoroughly impressed with the blogger day and want to thank Aztec Hotel & Spa for having me. I would recommend the hotel, spa and restaurant to anyone wanting a place to stay near Bristol.
