For the last five years I haven’t set resolutions, I’ve brainstormed a word to live by.
Seriously though, studies have found that choosing a WORD to focus on throughout the year will make you more successful in your life and goals.
Words for me in previous years have included:
The word has helped me stay focussed and holds less pressure than a resolution.
The last few months of 2019 were full of obstacles we had to navigate as a family. It felt like the Krypton Factor (remember that show?). And we all have things that get in the way, dampen our spirits or just steal our joy. Overwelm as a parent is REAL. Especially when a diagnosis takes the rug from under you.
1. Harry being diagnosed with probably ASD was both positive and upsetting
2. The many appointments that have sprung up since have been both positive and time consuming.
3. Multiple illnesses with days off school/work etc have just plain sucked and stalled us.
Things that would hold us ALL back if we’re being honest. And we know we have much to appreciate and thank 2019 for.
So slightly shellshocked and heart aching from everything, I sat down to brainstorm my word for 2020.
These words came to mind…
With 2020 firmly in my sights I sat down and asked God (a step I add in) and the word FLOW settled on my heart.
How lovely it would be to sit and the words to FLOW when I blog
How great it would be when my home is organised and FLOWS from one room to the other, colourful, fun, bright, clean and tidy.
What joy I’ll feel to FLOW with a gym regime that felt energising and consistent. With J-LO (my sober hero) to look up to at 50!
FITNESS. strength + consistency
Joining Progress Gym earlier this year changed how I workout. Fact.
From inconsistent attendance to consistent workouts every week has been a game changer. I embraced sobriety for the second time in April 2019 and haven’t looked back. I’ve replaced alcohol with endorphins.
Investing in a Personal Trainer has been key to moving forwards. I look forward to my session with Aaron Ignite PT every week and apparently having an appointment meeting someone at the gym will increase the odds of actually going. Adding in yoga before bed and more gym sessions to top up 2020 is about getting in my FLOW and that starts with healthy habits that stick.
BLOGGING. batch + automate
I worked with some incredible local brands last year including Petal Perfections and Wookey Hole and loved that. 2020 kicks off becoming a brand ambassador for local brand The Emporium, I’m so lucky! Such a fantastic place to hang out and meet people too.
I want blogging to be easier and produce quality content on a larger scale. Posting more regularly and keeping you up to date with collaborations and products from Somerset. With some brands lined up already I know you’ll adore what I’ve found for you.
Last year ALOT of blogs didn’t get written, and that’s a shame! Onwards and upwards though I’m investing time watching YouTube tutorials and training to learn to write in batches. And be productive rather than busy.
HOME. clean + clutter free
Recently re-modelled the upstairs of our home and moved the office nook from upstairs to downstairs. The main bedroom is now a master bath aka the game changer!
This re-design has allowed our space upstairs to flow so much better, and it’s given me and Jon our own bathroom. You can’t know the joy of brushing teeth on your own until you’ve had children.
Better with organisation is on the agenda and not just cleaning my clutter! We’ve launched PROJECT DE-CLUTTER in our home and we’ve started already.
FLOW just makes sense as I move into this new year with my family, fitness, blog and business goals.
WHAT’S YOUR WORD FOR 2020?
No matter what we dealt with yesterday, or last week or last year. Maybe 2019 was wiped out for you, I know that feeling. To get to the end of the year and not feel you’ve achieved anything. That’s demoralising.
With a word for the year the feeling is more gentle than a resolution. Why don’t you try it? All you need is a notepad and pen!
Let me know which word you choose for this year in the comments below, do you set resolutions and keep them, let me know! I truly hope it’s a good year for all of us.
HAPPY NEW YEAR and WELCOME 2020!
