Home Farm Fest

We’re known for festivals around these parts.

Somerset already serve up the most popular festival of all time every year Glastonbury Festival.   I was so happy to be invited to kick off festival season here in the UK just down the road in Chilthorne Domer for Home Farm Fest 2017.

On 9/10/11th June people came in their droves to set up camp on Home Farm, a stunning farm in a village in Somerset. The people came to listen to bands, have fun and raise money, and have fun we did.  I’d love to see more of this kind of event in in Somerset.

With local food and drink served up and so many bands and activities, there was something for everyone.

The adults in the party partook of some lovely local Ham Hill Cider.  In the words of us locals, it was ‘gert lush’.

Both me and Jon remarked how much the festival had grown, there were noticeably more people since we last attended before we had Katie. It was clear that word has spread about the quality of the festival and the heart behind it.

THE CHARITY

Home Farm Fest began as a way to raise money after the Simon family lost a son and brother in the 2004 Tsunami on Boxing Day in Thailand.  To honour Piers’ memory and to raise money for Disaster Relief the family started the Piers Simon Appeal.

PSA run the initiative School in a Bag (SIAB) where rucksacks containing stationery and resources are sent out to poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children worldwide.”

So far the festivals over the last 11 years have raised a whopping £253,000 for the School in a bag initiative and over 77,000 bags have been delivered.

Home Farm Festival is just one of the many ways that Piers’ family keep that legacy going.

The festival brings music and fun, dancing, drinking and merriment to us in Somerset and it also helps others.  That’s the legacy of Piers, of his heart and his humanity on that day in Thailand that still lives on today.

THE GLITTER BAR

Katie is my little hippy and when I saw The Glitter Bar Somerset tent I knew we both had to get glittered up with festival makeup. I think Katie rocked the festival with her ear defenders and glitter on her face.  The Glitter Bar and the delicious cake tent were my highlights.

There was so much to see and do included in the ticket price, I don’t think we touched the surface of it and can’t wait until next year, we’ll definitely camp all weekend next time.

Home Farm Fest, you’ve been fabulous!

We loved it too. Husband and I went on Friday and then came back on Sunday with the kid.s. It was in stark contrast to Coachella festival which was our closest on LA but we had a brilliant time and all for a good cause! Plus the commute home was a mere 5 minutes.

I hope you get to one soon. Small ones like this, especially when it raises money for such a great cause, is fantastic for the community all round x

Ooh I love a festival but have never been as a family. Glastonbury was my last one, when we left the tent because it was just a mud bath! I know that I’d go for the glitter too! Thanks for hosting #sharethejoylinky

The glitter is amazing and it sounds like a nice small family festival? We are not too far in Gloucestershire and I’ll be looking into family friendly festivals now mine are a little older 🙂

I am bit of a glitter fiend! Now my kids are 6 and 4 they’re certainly more adaptable to situations like festivals especially the smaller ones
