Last weekend saw me and my honey Jon disappear into the Somerset countryside to Little Barwick House for a night away to celebrate our 7 year wedding anniversary.
Wow, 7 years! I can’t believe it’s been so long, and yet it’s gone in the blink of an eye.
We were welcomed by the ever lovely Emma who showed us to our room and offered us a drink. We started by immediately kicking off our boots in front of the open fire and having a well deserved drink (beer for Jon, Chardonnay for me).
Then we went up to our lovely room and got ready for a 3 course meal.
I wore a black crepe boned top from Coast that I wore to my 30th birthday celebrations so I’ve had it 8 years! I bought the skirt with lace detail at the bottom from River Island. Jon wore his trusty Diesel jeans he’s had since our first shopping trip together to Cribs Causeway, his dress sense got better after he met me. He wore a French Connection shirt at I picked up for him at TK Maxx in Yeovil.
The restaurant is small and quite intimate, ambient lighting with candlelight. There’s a lovely atmosphere while being able to chat on your own. It would have been nice if the fire in the restaurant had been real, but also understand that people don’t want to get too hot at dinner. There were people there in dicky bows having a lovely time!
The food is very rich and we are not used to eating 3 courses! I was super glad my skirt was elasticated but also wished my top wasn’t boned, I was stuffed.
We both had 3 courses as it was included in the price of the stay.
Lizzie had: Twice cooked cheese soufflé, Ruby Beef in red wine sauce & Creme Brûlée Jon had: Lemon Sole, Noisette of Lamb & Apple and Caramel Pie.
We shared a bottle of wine and that pretty much did us in.
We had a lovely nights sleep, the bed was really comfy. Breakfast was between 8.30am to 9.30am and to be honest I could have waited until much later than that. It was lovely to come down to the best table (we thought) right by the window on the morning of our wedding anniversary.
I was still so full from the night before that I could only fit in a small bowl of granola and a piece of toast. Jon managed a full english! He’s such a bloke.
A short walk around the grounds and then we checked out and hopped over the border to Sherborne for a wander. Walking past the Abbey while the hymns were being sung was a lovely moment.
So grateful to have this man in my life, my husband who supports my hopes, dreams and goals, loves me as I am and is a great dad who works hard for us all. I’m a lucky girl to be treated to a wonderful night away. We had a great time and will definitely be back. Thanks to Emma and co at Little Barwick House so lovely.
Huge thanks to my mum and dad who had the kids overnight! Thanks guys we love you!!! Sorry for the picture overload folks, and I hope you enjoyed seeing our weekend/anniversary!
