One of the most memorable, beautiful and heart-warming stories of recent years; ‘Mum’s List’ tells the real life story of Singe and Kate, a couple from North Somerset, whose lives were turned upside down when Kate was diagnosed with an incurable breast cancer.
Published by Penguin Books in 2012 in the United Kingdom, the book ‘Mum’s List’ entered the UK Amazon charts at No 1, selling over 100,000 copies in just 2 months and quickly became a global success. Now UK cinema audiences will have the chance to share in this inspirational story when it hits the big screen on November 25th, 2016. Written and directed by Niall Johnson (‘White Noise’; ‘Keeping Mum’), ‘Mum’s List’ stars Rafe Spall (One Day, Prometheus, Life of Pi), Emilia Fox (Silent Witness, The Pianist, Merlin) and Elaine Cassidy. It is produced by Nick Hamson (‘Premonition’; ‘St George’s Day’) and Studio Soho Films together with executive producers Gareth Jones, Chris Wood, Niall Johnson and Sarah Weatherstone.
We’ve all been touched by someone who is either fighting their own battle or have lost a battle with cancer. Maybe you’re fighting cancer yourself, right now. So many people are being cured and so many aren’t. There is still such a long way to go.
My husband, Jon, lost his beautiful mum Shirley to cancer when he was just 11 years old, it is the most heartbreaking event in this life. I can’t imagine my life without my mum in it and to be left without a mum at such a young age is hard to imagine.
Jon is in his 30’s now and the loss still affects him to this day, in lots of small and also significant ways. The fact that our children will never know their grandma and that she wasn’t at our wedding and yet she’s still a huge part of us. She’s a part of our lives and who we are as a family and she lives on in our children.
Jon remembers how wonderful the Macmillian nurses were, every day without fail they would come and look after Shirley and were so kind to him and the whole family.
Mum’s List is a heartfelt story of one such mum, and Kate, like Shirley, had the heartbreaking knowledge that this cruel disease would take her too soon. Leaving her sons without a mum and wanting to leave something wonderful behind for them. To build memories that would last and keeping her in their lives after she was gone.
